Eva Longoria: Comfortable in Any Skin
In Desperate Housewives, Eva Longoria plays the role of a sex vixen who steals illicit moments with the gardener while her hubby is out hustling for money. She fits the role perfectly, or at least plays the role convincingly. But then in The Sentinel, she plays opposite Kiefer Sutherland and Michael Douglas as a straight, no-nonsense talking police cop. Guess what? She plays the role beautifully as well, or at least plays the role convincingly. It seems Eva has the kind of rare versatility enabling her to mold the role to her personality and vice-versa. Easy and clever transition is what they call it.
Eva’s popularity was sealed in the TV series Desperate Housewives but before that, showed staying power early in her career. She grew up in Corpus Christie, Texas and her family joked often that she was the ugly duckling of the clan. That must have been because she was the only child that was born with black hair. Winning the Miss Corpus Christie title in 1998 put an end to the ugly duckling jokes. It was her “coming out” so to speak, and snatching the title armed her with a renewed sense of confidence not only in how she looked, but in her talents as a future actress.
Before her big break on Desperate Housewives, Eva Longoria appeared in What The Rabbit Saw, which was followed by a minor role in the TV series Beverly Hills 90210, and then went on to star in The Young and the Restless. She produced and starred in a comedy/variety show called Hot Tamales Live. She appeared with Anne Heche in The Dead Will Tell, a film for TV thriller. She also had roles in Carlita’s Secret, Harsh Times, and on top of her increasing television commitments, was asked to represent L’Oreal Cosmetics in April 2005. Her three-year marriage to Tyler Christopher ended in 2005.
We won’t forget to mention that Longoria also had unforgettable appearances in the Dragnet revival in 2003 and video features Snitch’d and Señorita Justice. But it was definitely Desperate Housewives that put her career track on solid footing
